From the supplier: A study which aimed to determine the relationship between aerobic capacity and age and anthropometric measures of black adolescent girls is presented. Participants consisted of 91 black girls aged between 11 to 15 years. Results showed no relation between aerobic capacity and age. Other findings included significant relationships between anthropometric measures and aerobic capacity and similar aerobic capacity and maximal heat rate values whether or not subjects achieved performance plateaus. A comparative analysis with similar studies showed that black adolescent girls had less aerobic capacity than whites.

Characterisation and optimisation of three potential aerobic bacterial strains for kraft lignin degradation from pulp paper waste [An article from: Chemosphere] Review
This digital document is a journal article from Chemosphere, published by Elsevier in 2007. The article is delivered in HTML format and is available in your Amazon.com Media Library immediately after purchase. You can view it with any web browser.
Description:
Eight aerobic bacterial strains were isolated from pulp paper mill effluent sludge. Out of eight through nutrient enrichment technique three potential aerobic bacterial strains ITRC S"6, ITRC S"7 and ITRC S"8 were found capable to effectively degrade the kraft lignin (KL), a major byproduct of the chemical pulping process and main contributor to the colour and toxicity of effluent. Further, these potential strains (ITRC S"6, ITRC S"7 and ITRC S"8) were biochemically characterised as Gram variable small rod, Gram negative rod and Gram positive rod respectively. Subsequently, 16S rRNA sequencing showed 95% base sequence homology and it was identified as Paenibacillus sp. (AY952466), Aneurinibacillus aneurinilyticus (AY856831), Bacillus sp. (AY952465) for ITRC S"6, IITRC S"7 and ITRC S"8, respectively. In batch decolourization experiments Bacillus sp. ITRC S"8 reduced the colour of lignin amended mineral salt medium, pH 7.6 by 65% after 6thd, at 30^oC, A. aneurinilyticus ITRC S"7 by 56% and Paenibacillus ITRC S"6 43%. Under these conditions the three strains degraded the KL by 37%, 33% and 30%, respectively while the mixed culture of these three bacteria reduced colour by 69%, lignin by 40% and total substrate by 50% under same conditions. Biodegradation of the KL was not affected by low (<0.2mgl^-^1) dissolved oxygen content; thus oxygen inhibition is more likely to be a metabolism-dependent event. Initially with 48h incubation the decolourization was slow with decreased pH. Further incubation there was rapid decolourization with slight increase in pH at 6d compared with initial pH by increasing culture optical density. The lignin analysis from medium with HPLC indicated complete degradation rather than biotransformation with complete loss of absorbance peak at 280nm.

Wastewater Purification: Aerobic Granulation in Sequencing Batch Reactors Review
A newcomer to the scene, aerobic granulation is on its way to becoming the hot new technology for high-efficiency wastewater treatment. Thus far, intensive research has been conducted with regard to the understanding of the mechanism of aerobic granulation in sequencing batch reactors (SBR) and its application in treating a wide variety of municipal and industrial wastewater. This basic research has promoted the technology from laboratory-study all the way to the present pilot- and full-scale application. The time is right for a reference that discusses the technology and its application in wastewater purification.
Wastewater Purification: Aerobic Granulation in Sequencing Batch Reactors discusses state-of-the-art research and application of this environmental biotechnology tailored to enhanced wastewater purification. The seventeen chapters provide a systematic and comprehensive understanding of aerobic granulation in SBR by incorporating fundamental principles of aerobic granulation with the basis of process operation under various conditions. The book clearly explains what aerobic granules are and how they form. It elucidates key factors that influence aerobic granulation and addresses common problems encountered and their solutions.
This is the first book-length exploration of aerobic granulation. Other books that cover it are smaller, less comprehensive, less in depth, and less up to date. This book provides first-hand information derived from the authors' research and presents a newly-developed theory for aerobic granulation that offers a deep understanding into the essence of current aerobic granulation technology. Using this book as a platform, the technology can be developed further and quickly applied in the wastewater treatment industry.

Walk Like a Bear, Stand Like a Tree, Run Like the Wind: Cool yoga, stretching and aerobic activities for cool kids Review
I have bought a lot of yoga books lately, looking for the best resources to use with my preschool daughter. From the reviews and the title and description of the book, this one seemed like a good candidate. It arrived today and I opened it up; right on the cover page below "cool yoga, stretching and aerobic exercices for cool kids" it adds "ages 6 - 12." Well! I wish I had known that before I bought it.
Then I looked through the book and it lost another star. Overall, I this book is geared for preteen kids to read to teach themselves yoga and I think the author underestimates the ability of this age group to tell when they're being talked down to -- this is based on the illustrations and descriptions of each pose. The text is simplistic and the illustrations even more so. They are cartoonish drawings, not even real photos of children doing the poses. Like a Fish in Water by Isabelle Koch would be much better for this age group.

Aerobic Walking The Weight-Loss Exercise: A Complete Program to Reduce Weight, Stress, and Hypertension Review
Dr. Mort Malkin is one of the nation's leading authorities on aerobic walking. He has developed clinics, programs, seminars across the states. Also, check out his other best seller, "Walking, The Pleasure Exercise."
Malkin's first attempt to persuade you to walk aerobically us by convincing you how good you will look. He will focus on the fundamentals of the whole esthetic picture, your weight, shape, posture, presence and grace, yes, grace; he believes the conveniences of modern civilization have made us into sitters instead of walkers. The computer world alone has us sitting more than ever. As for presence, Dr. Malkin says aerobic walking will bestow a more youthful appearance.
You will learn plenty on the aerobic diet guide for reducing, he informs us on carbs, proteins, fats, water, vitamins, fiber, foods with grains, salad vegetables, green and yellow vegetables, starches, dairy, fruits, etc.,
In the chapter called "How Far, How Fast, How Often", he discusses an 8-week program that is simply increasing your pace from 15 minutes at a gentle pace, every other day to 45 minutes at a very brisk pace every other day. That's all that is in the 8-week program, a doable increase in pace and time.
Included is plenty of info on preventing injuries. This is an excellent book...MzRizz

What a read! I found myself on an emotional roller coaster as I laughed my way through Donkey Ho-tay, Mr. Oxy Moron and a French-fried thief, then found myself nodding with grim-faced apperception at Predators & Packs. It brought to mind Ogden Nash and Morris Bishop with a little Mad Magazine thrown in. Delightfully bizarre! Try it with a well-shaken martini and extra olives. Fitness through Aerobics (7th Edition) Review
If you had to own just one book on fitness, this would be an excellent choice. It covers the waterfront -- basic fitness concepts; clothing and equipment selection; flexibility exercises for warm-up and cool-down; resistance exercises for improved muscle tone; step aerobics and aerobic dance; exercise variants using weights, bands, stability balls; nutrition and weight control; injury prevention; even how to select an exercise facility and instructor. The content is based on the latest research in the field, and supplemented by helpful worksheets for key elements of a fitness program, such as determining your target heart rate and monitoring your fitness and cardiorespiratory performance status. There are excellent photos illustrating the exercises to do and, perhaps more important, the exercises to avoid. Before I got this book I was trying to cobble together my own fitness program from various web sites, and wondering why I was hurting most of the time. This book helped me enormously in putting together a more sensible fitness and weight-loss program that I have been able to sustain without injury.

Your Water Workout: No-Impact Aerobic and Strength Training From Yoga, Pilates, Tai Chi, and More Review
As a total non-swimmer and out of shape middle-aged woman, I found this book extremely helpful and the exercises a lot of fun. I don't really know any swimming strokes, but love the water and found these exercises have helped me to put on some muscle and take off some weight. I have osteoarthritis in my knees, shoulder problems, neck problems, and had hurt my feet on the treadmill. With this book I was able to keep exercising. I have loved it. The only reason I didn't give it a five is because it's not water proof and needs something you can take with you to the water area, if not into the water. I found the directions easy to follow.

Aerobics Program For Total Well-Being: Exercise, Diet , And Emotional Balance Review
After misplacing my copy of Cooper's earlier "The Aerobic Way," I purchased this book. This book is a bit weaker.
Cooper's unique "point system" is the book's greatest asset. The system is an elegantly simple, scientifically sound way to help you achieve health. Cooper assigns aerobic points to a wide variety of exercises, another huge plus.
How's good is this system? I have tracked my Cooper points since college in the late 80's as a runner/ jogger. As 40 approached, my knees began to rebel. To quell the revolt, I decided to switch from running/ jogging to cycling and cross-country machines. Having lost the earlier book, I went out of my way to buy this book so I could determine the point-level of the new regimen. That should tell the reader of the utility and draw of Cooper's over-all approach.
One vital thing Cooper added, which had been missing from the earlier book, is a series of pragmatic, easy-to-follow dietary recommendations. Eat lots of fruits, veggies and whole grains: complex carbohydrates. Focus on lean meats and low-fat dairy products. Avoid processed foods and gratuitous fats and simple sugars.
My criticisms begin with Cooper's questionable blanket statements regarding the fit versus sedentary: fit people are more creative, stress hardy, happy, effective and independent thinking than those in poor condition. Is this opinion or data driven? Never disclosing the sources of his statements, Cooper then prescribes exercise to improve a person's mental heath. Again, has this been proven with a double blind or thorough, longitudinal study? Or just dogma?
Lastly, there is a strange, almost comical messiah complex sprinkled through the text. Cooper mentions quite a few times that he was "chosen by God" to spread his gospel of preventative medicine. This is overkill, even for a Christian like me. A simple "I thank God for giving me the opportunity to help people lead healthier, happier lives," in either the Preface or Dedication pages would have sufficed.
With all these down-sides, however, I still have to grant the book a four-star rating based on Cooper's excellent point system and solid, if incomplete dietary recommendations. Now, if we could only weed out the silly pop-psychology and evangelical fervor, we'd have a great book...
